Abstract: The supporting effect of the new hollow steel pipe support and the hollow thread steel pipe support on the fracture zone is compared through experiments，which provides a reference for the application of new materials. The test results show that the stress of the new hollow steel pipe support is reduced by 22.2%~28.6% compared with the hollow screw steel pipe，and the range of the loose circle around the support body is reduced by 23.5%~36.4%. During the support period，the support stress of the new hollow steel pipe increases with the increase of the fragmentation zone. The internal filling material has a certain buffer⁃ ing effect，which can inhibit the rapid development of the fragmentation zone and reduce the range of the loose circle. The new hollow steel pipe support technology has more obvious advantages in controlling the deformation of surrounding rock.
