Abstract: The stability of the waste dump is very important to the safety production of the mine. Based on the investigation and analysis of the slope stability of a domestic iron mine waste dump, the slope stability of the waste dump is comprehensively evaluated from a qualitative and quantitative perspective through on-site engineering geological investigation and numerical simulation analysis. The field engineer⁃ ing geological survey made a qualitative judgment on the structural stability and failure mode of the slope based on the detailed analysis of the structural characteristics of the rock mass through the field survey. It was concluded that the combination of structural planes was good,no fracture or fold structure was found, and the structural plane of the slope rock mass was a hard structural plane. The numerical simulation analy⁃ sis uses Slide numerical simulation and FLAC3D numerical simulation to verify each other. The Slide numer⁃ ical simulation uses the limit equilibrium method for stability analysis, and FLAC3D uses the strength reduc⁃ tion method for stability analysis. The two numerical simulation methods both obtain that the slope stability coefficient is higher than the slope safety coefficient, and the probability of overall sliding failure of the slope is small. According to the field structural plane investigation and analysis and numerical simulation results,it is concluded that the waste dump slope is in a stable state. The comprehensive analysis method provides reference for the stability analysis of other iron mine waste dump slopes.
