Research and Application of Ground-penetrating Radar in the Detection of Geological Anomalies in Lutian Coal Mine

Abstract: To address the safety production threats posed by coal seam spontaneous combustion, abandoned areas,and geological loose zones at Lutian Coal Mine,the effectiveness of ground-penetrating radar technology in accurately detecting such geological anomalies was proposed and verified. The study employed the imported Pulse EKKO PRO ground-penetrating radar,used a 50 MHz center frequency an⁃ tenna. Six total-length 1 393 m survey lines were set up in the south wing of the fourth mining area. Through systematic data collection,terrain correction,filtering and noise reduction,gain adjustment,and deep conversion processing procedures,high-resolution imaging and interpretation of underground struc⁃ tures were conducted. The research results showed that 20 geological anomaly points were successfully identified. Among them,7 points were determined to be cavities(with a burial depth of 17 to 46 m),and their radar profile characteristics were "strong amplitude clusters + signal interruption". The other 13 points were areas of loose or non-solidified strata(with a burial depth of 8 to 35 m),presenting disor⁃ dered reflection textures and slight amplitude fluctuations. The drilling verification results were highly con⁃sistent with the radar interpretation,confirming the reliability of this technology. The conclusion is that ground-penetrating radar,with its advantages of high signal-to-noise ratio,large detection depth(up to 60 m),high resolution(0.5 m),and high sensitivity,can effectively complement the shortcomings of tra⁃ ditional drilling,transient electromagnetic,etc. methods,providing an efficient and non-destructive tech⁃ nical means for the precise exploration of geological anomalies in open-pit coal mines,and has significant engineering application value for ensuring mine safety and improving mining efficiency.
