Abstract: The clay rock mines used for pottery making in Yixing City，Jiangsu Province are increas‐ ingly depleted，and the clay mines are important raw materials for making purple clay teapots. During the census project of the Shizishan Clay Mine in Guangde City，Anhui Province，it was found that this area has the same ore-bearing layer as the purple clay mine in Yixing，Jiangsu Province. The clay ore is mainly pur‐ plish red，with other colors mixed in. Its hardness is less than 2.5，and its chemical composition meets the industrial index requirements. It has good plasticity and sintering performance. Three samples were collected for pottery-making experiments and successfully fired into teapots. The research results show that the Shizis‐ han Clay ores meet the raw material requirements for purple clay products and can fill the growing gap in do‐ mestic demand for purple clay raw materials.
