The occurrence of overlying coal pillar has a strong influence on the stress and strain distri⁃ bution of the surrounding rock of the stope. The stress distribution characteristics with no overlying coal pil⁃ lar are analyzed by numerical calculation, and the influence rules of three factors, namely the horizontal and vertical distance between the overlying coal pillar and the working surface and the buried depth of the overlying coal pillar,on the support stress distribution are studied. The function model between the peak stress of surrounding rock and the above factors is established. The simulation results show that the occur⁃ rence of coal wall sheeting has a significant effect on the stress distribution of the working face. When no coal pillar is covered, the leading peak stress is higher and the influence range is smaller. Field practice shows that strong ore pressure frequently appears on the working face, and when the top coal pillar is mined on the working face, the deformation of the roadway reaches the dangerous value. Through reasonable adjust⁃ ment of the working state of the hydraulic support, the coal wall sheet is fully controlled, and the height and width of the roadway are maintained at 2.95 and 5.66 m respectively, ensuring the safe production of the working face.
