Abstract: There are a large number of low-silicon iron tailings in Hebei Province. In order to explore the high value-added comprehensive utilization method of iron tailings,a high-magnesium low-silicon iron tailings mixed with a small amount of magnesite in Hebei Province was used as raw material to prepare lightweight forsterite refractory aggregate by high-temperature sintering. The experiment mainly discussed the influence of the ratio of iron tailings to magnesite, heating rate and maximum sintering temperature on the performance of the sample. The test results show that when the ratio of iron tailings to magnesite is 74∶26,the heating rate is 3 ℃/min,and the maximum sintering temperature is 1 300 ℃,the lightweight forsterite refractory aggregate with bulk density of 1.28 g/cm3,cylinder compressive strength of 6.0 MPa and thermal conductivity of 0.425 W(/ m·K)can be obtained.
