Characteristics of Fluorite and Its Inclusions from the Bayan Obo Iron Ore

In order to recover fluorite from Bayan Obo iron ore and improve the grade of fluorite con⁃
centrate,the occurrence state and inclusions of fluorite in Bayan Obo iron ore were determined by light
sheet method. The results show that the fluorite gangue in Bayan Obo iron ore is a kind of extremely difficult
ore with fine disseminated particle size. In the area where iron minerals are enriched,the density of inclu⁃
sions in fluorite can be as high as 2 100 grains/mm2 . Due to the influence of inclusions,the grade of fluorite
concentrate in Bayan Obo is lower than that of ordinary fluorite ore under the same separation conditions. In
Bayan Obo iron ore,most of the fluorite particles of -75 μm are concentrated in 30~5 μm,and the particle
size of 75~30 μm is very small. Further fine grinding to increase the proportion of -30 μm particle size will
not significantly increase the dissociation degree of fluorite. It is suggested that the production site should be
organized by 'low quality and high yield'. Under the current grinding particle size,it is more feasible to do a
good job of 'cleaning'.
