Study on Process Mineralogy of a Hematite Ore in China

In order to provide a basis for the beneficiation test of a hematite ore in China, a process
mineralogy study was carried out. The iron grade of the ore is 34.16%, the main useful iron mineral hematite
content is 40.66%, and the secondary iron mineral limonite content is 9.90%. The ore texture mainly in⁃
cludes block texture, disseminated texture and banded texture. The ore structure mainly includes needle
structure, mesh structure, inclusion structure, granular structure, disseminated structure, porphyritic struc⁃
ture and metasomatic structure. The hematite is mainly needle-like and fibrous aggregates symbiotically em⁃
bedded with gangue minerals, with an embedded particle size of 5~30 μm. Limonite is mainly colloidal or
porphyritic, and the disseminated particle size is less than 0.07 mm. The distribution rates of hematite and li⁃
monite in the -0.01 mm fraction are 46.48% and 27.14%, respectively. This part of fine-grained iron miner⁃
als is difficult to be dissociated completely. The dissemination size of quartz is uneven, and the distribution
rate of -0.07 mm particle size is 53.91%. This part of quartz is clastic and fine-grained disseminated in iron
minerals, which is hard to liberate from iron minerals. According to the analysis results, the stage grinding
stage separation process is recommended.
