Abstract: Based on the exploration data，starting from the characteristics of coal-bearing property， paleontology，coal thickness change and the distribution of coal-rich centers，using the two-in-one re⁃ search method based on strata and aiming at the law of coal accumulation，using modern sedimentology the⁃ ory，the law of coal accumulation and its controlling factors in the Permian Leping period of Jiangxi Prov⁃ ince were studied. The results show that the coal accumulation law in the area is mainly controlled by the faults in the basin. The coal accumulation basin belongs to the inland platform basin type epicontinental sea basin. The stage of tectonic activity leads to that the coal accumulation in Leping period can be divided into three stages : early，middle and late stages，forming three coal groups A，B and C respectively. The faults in the basin control the development and evolution of peat mire. The sedimentary systems mainly include al⁃ luvial plain，barrier tidal flat and river-controlled delta. The coal-forming of barrier tidal flat is better and more stable，while that of alluvial plain and river-controlled delta is poor and unstable.
