Experimental Study on Beneficiability of Copper Flotation Tailings from a Smelting Slag

Abstract: The total iron grade of a smelting slag floating copper tailings is 47.61%. Iron mainly oc⁃ curs in magnetite and iron silicate. The iron distribution rate in magnetite is only 34.60%,while the iron distribution rate in fayalite and vitreous body is as high as 63.74%. The process mineralogy analysis shows that the dissemination size of magnetite is fine,and the proportion of -0.019 mm particle size is 54.89%. About half of the particles are closely connected with fayalite and vitreous body,and it is difficult to dissoci⁃ ate the monomer. Based on the characteristics of the ore,the principle process of stage grindingstage low in⁃ tensity magnetic separation was developed. Under the condition of rough grinding,the tailings are discarded in advance,and the rough concentrate is reground and reselected to gradually increase the concentrate grade,avoiding over-grinding and mudding. Under the condition of final grinding fineness P90=19.95 μm, the whole process test can obtain the beneficiation index of concentrate iron grade 62.12% and recovery rate 42.42%. The efficient recovery of magnetic iron minerals in the tailings is realized.
