Abstract: Malipo emerald deposit occurs in Laojunshan metamorphic core complex. It is the most economically valuable emerald deposit in China. In order to study the mineralogical characteristics of emeralds produced in this deposit, electron probe, infrared spectrum and Raman spectrum were used to analyze the mineral chemical composition and spectral characteristics. The results show that the main components of Malipo emerald are SiO2,Al2O3 and BeO.The results showed that the main components of emeralds from Malipo were SiO2,Al2O3 and BeO,and the contents of V2O5 were high, while the contents of Cr2O3,K2O and Na2O were low. The main absorption peaks of infrared spectrum are located at 1 167,1050,991,844,773, 710,614,567,504,and 480 cm-1. Their infrared spectral characteristics are basically consistent with Australian Menzies emeralds, but they are different from Zambian and Xinjiang. The Raman spectrum peaks of emeralds from the four localities have the same general trend, and show the Raman spectrum characteristics of beryl. However, there are many differences between them, which may be the macroscopic manifestation of metallogenic environment differences, and can be used as the basis for identification of origin.
