Abstract: The coal body stability at the construction section of the 11703 transportation track head chamber of the No. 7 Coal Mine of Dananhu is poor, and the roadway layout is complex. To address the technical challenges such as high construction difficulty, low efficiency and difficult control of surrounding rock when using traditional tunnel boring machines, through technical research, the construction process of the machine head system roadway was optimized. The close-range coal seam tunneling process of going up the mountain through layers was adopted. Meanwhile,a combined support of "C steel shed + side an⁃ chor cable + advanced grouting" was proposed for the going up the mountain through layers section. For the section passing through the roadway,a combined support process of "artificial false roof + U29-type steel shed" was proposed, and for the bottom-raising area of the coal leakage hole,a combined support process of "steel mesh + channel steel beam + spray" was adopted. Through field application, compared with the head system roadway of the 11701 transport track head chamber, the construction period of the 11703 transport track head chamber after process optimization was shortened by 14 d,and the tunneling project cost was reduced by 897 000 yuan. Monitoring of the surrounding rock in the through-layer and road-pass⁃ ing sections revealed that after the implementation of combined support,no large-scale deformation or con⁃ traction occurred in the surrounding rock. The maximum subsidence of the roof in the through-layer section was 0.12 m,the maximum contraction on both sides was about 0.25 m,the maximum subsidence of the roof in the road-passing belt roadway section was about 0.16 m,and the maximum subsidence of the roof in the road-passing return air roadway section was about 0.14 m,all are within the allowable range. Com⁃ bined support has achieved remarkable application results.
