Abstract: In order to find out the migration of heavy metal pollutants in the dam body of tailings pond and make impact predictions, the heavy metal tailings pond is simulated by numerical experiments, the tailings pond dam conditions are generalized, and the groundwater flow model and groundwater contaminant(copper ions in tailings leachate as example) migration model are established.Through TOUGH2 software simulation calculation, the distribution of copper ion pollutants in the dam body at each moment is obtained. The simulation results show that the copper ion pollutants migrate in the groundwater flow field and diffuse in the fan shape, the movement law of copper ion pollutants in the dam body is consistent with the groundwater flow field characteristics. With the passage of time, the migration range gradually expands in the dam body, and as the migration distance increases, the pollutant concentration gradually decreases. At 2,750 d,copper ions emerged from the dam into the natural environment and began to affect the environment. The results provide a basis for environmental pollution control and prevention measures around the tailings pond.
